Mentor Camp 2026
Six students applied and were successful in becoming a Youth Environment Council (YEC) Mentor this year. They all showed strong leadership and teamwork whilst participating in the YEC last year, and this year they will help guide and support the Council by welcoming new members, leading activities, sharing support and advice about projects, and helping members connect with each other. Mentors work closely with the YEC staff team, contributing to the year-long program, co-facilitating activities and getting involved in extra opportunities.
On Monday 19 January the YEC mentors met for the first time as a group at the Adelaide Zoo. They got to know each other better, practiced public speaking and facilitation skills, and went through scenarios of tricky situations that they might encounter in a leadership role. Our Zoo Education Officer Jo shared her passion for animals and experience doing field work in America and Australia, and the Mentors were lucky to have private guided night and morning tours of the zoo.
