Youth Environment Council welcomes a new group for 2026!
Green Adelaide launched this year’s Youth Environment Council of South Australia (YEC) program at Yitpi Yartapuultiku in Port Adelaide.
More than 50 students travelled from across the state to come together for the YEC Welcome Forum. For many, it was their first chance to meet like-minded peers who share a passion for protecting and improving their local environments.
The day was full of energy, ideas and connection. Students swapped stories about their local places, explored the environmental issues that matter most to them, and began shaping the sustainability projects they’ll lead in their schools and communities throughout the year.
The program blended leadership development with hands-on, outdoor experiences. From team challenges and collaborative workshops to creative electives like nature journalling and art, going on a scavenger hunt and sieving for microplastics, students were encouraged to think differently, build confidence, and connect more deeply with nature.
YEC Mentors—returning student leaders—played a key role in bringing the day to life. Their enthusiasm and guidance helped create a welcoming, supportive environment while showcasing the leadership opportunities the program offers.
The Welcome Forum is just the beginning. Next up is a three-day leadership camp at Arbury Park Outdoor School, where ideas will be sharpened into action and students will build the skills to turn their projects into real-world impact.
With momentum already building, the 2026 YEC is set to make a meaningful contribution—driving practical, youth-led solutions and strengthening environmental action across South Australia
