2023 Program

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
Applications open - Check out the ‘How can I join?’ page for more information and to apply.

TERM 1
Main focus: Application process; first event for the year to meet everyone; learn about the online platform and upcoming camp.


3 Feb - Mentor offer acceptance due (by invitation only)
27 Feb - Mentor consent forms due 
2 Mar - Applications for regular members close
6 Mar - Successful and non-successful applicants notified and consent forms sent

9 Mar - Mentor Training Day (mentors only), Adelaide (Week 6)
  • An opportunity for Mentors to develop mentoring and facilitation skills and assist with YEC event planning. 
16 Mar - Regular member consent forms due 
30 Mar - Welcome Forum for all members, Adelaide Hills (Week 9)
  • The first event for the new YEC members. An opportunity for like-minded students across the state to share, learn and be inspired about sustainability.

11 April - Online forum 5pm (optional) (Week 11)
  • Learn how to use the online forum  and ask any questions about the upcoming leadership camp.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS (15-30 April)
Main focus: Leadership camp; start using the online forum; think of ideas for your project.

17-19 April - Leadership camp, Adelaide Hills (1st week of the holidays)
  • Join in fun team building exercises and activities to develop your leadership skills.
  • Develop skills and knowledge on environmental and sustainability themes and ways to take action.
  • Work with other like-minded students to research areas of interest and develop a plan of action.

30 April - Checkpoint #1 (last day of the holidays)
  • By this date, post or comment on the online forum. If you are having trouble logging in or don’t know what to do, contact your YEC staff mentor.

TERM 2
Main focus: Develop your project ideas, get feedback from your YEC staff mentor and start/continue your project.
 

5 May - Online forum 5pm (optional) (Week 1)
  • Discuss your project ideas and get feedback; revisit online platform instructions; potential expert topic presentation.
31 May - Checkpoint #2 (Week 5)
  • By this date, send an outline of your project idea to your YEC staff mentor for feedback
May/early June weekend - Potential regional event (optional - details will be provided once confirmed)
6 June - 
Online forum 5pm (optional) (Week 6)
  • Discuss your project ideas and get feedback; potential expert topic presentation.
5 July - Online forum 5pm (optional) (Week 10)
  • Discuss your project progress and get feedback; potential expert topic presentation.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS  (8-23 July)
Main focus: Work on your project; optional face-to-face event; contact your YEC staff mentor with an update on your project.


During school holidays
23 July - Checkpoint #3 (last day of the school holidays)
  • By this date, let your YEC staff mentor know how you are going with your project.  They can help with ideas if you are stuck or not sure what to do next. Remember you can add a post or photo to the online forum to share with other members.

TERM 3
Main focus: Work on your project; use the optional online forums to share your progress and get more ideas or feedback

7 Aug - Online forum 5pm (optional) (Week 3)
  • Discuss your project progress and get feedback; potential expert topic presentation.
7 Sept - Online forum 5pm (optional) (Week 7)
  • Discuss your project ideas and get feedback; potential expert topic presentation.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS (30 Sept - 15 Oct)
Main focus: Work on your project; think about how you will present your progress at the Celebration forum; optional face-to-face event.

During school holidays - Potential regional event (optional - details will be provided once confirmed)
2 Oct - Face-to-face catch up & activity (optional for local members, no travel subsidy available) (2nd week of the holidays), southern Adelaide
11 Oct - Online forum 5pm (optional) (2nd week of the holidays)
  • Discuss ideas for presenting your project at the Celebration forum; discuss your project progress.
​15 Oct - Checkpoint #4 (last day of the school holidays)
  • By this date, you know how you will be presenting your project at the Celebration forum in a few weeks. You don’t have to have finished.  If you’re stuck or things are not progressing, please contact your YEC staff mentor for support.

​TERM 4
Main focus: Share your project progress and celebrate with YEC members and guests at the final event; continue, hand over or finish your project.

9 Nov - Sharing and Celebration Forum, Adelaide CBD (Week 4)
  • Share and celebrate your environmental achievements, demonstrating your skills and knowledge in practice, and reflect on actions and changes as a group.

NOTES
  • Online forums are scheduled for 1.5 hours but you can join late or leave early if you have other commitments.
  • Members are expected to get themselves to and from events.
  • A small travel subsidy is available for students travelling more than 100km to Adelaide. Download the reimbursement  form here. 
  • All events are subject to COVID19 restrictions. Where face to face events are not possible, we will endeavour to create an online replacement.
